A Mankato Police commander was injured in a scuffle in a Riverfront Drive business with a man he was trying to arrest on an outstanding warrant.
Commander Dan Schisel was the only officer available to go to the call, and when he arrived says 40-year-old Tomak Zarif of Mankato gave him a bogus name and began acting increasingly nervous.
Eventually, Zarif pushed past Schisel and tried to run, but the commander took him to the ground. The criminal complaint shows Zarif continued to resist and Schisel was unable to reach his lapel mic and asked store employees to call 9-1-1.
He was eventually able to radio for backup and another officer arrived and helped take Zarif into custody. He is charged with assault, assaulting an officer, obstructing a police officer, and giving police a false name.
Commander Schisel suffered a fractured finger in the incident.
