A Mankato man is facing two counts of drunk driving and one of leaving the scene of a crash after an incident Monday evening.

A Mankato Police officer on routine patrol came upon several car parts in the turn lane between Belle Avenue and Extension Street. Just ahead, investigators say a Mustang was driving in the right-lane from Victory Drive to Main Street with its bumper dragging and the driver pointed to a pickup ahead.

The officer pulled the truck over and says 55-year-old Brian Stark had a fast food bag in the vehicle, was covered in lettuce, and smelled of alcohol. The criminal complaint shows he failed field sobriety tests and blew a .12 on a portable breath test.

Witnesses say Stark stopped in the middle of the road at the intersection of Extension Street and Victory Drive, straddling the yellow line, and when the driver of the Mustang tried to pass Stark suddenly pulled to the right an hit his car.

Stark told police he didn’t realize he had hit anything.
