The Mankato Fire Department’s “Keep the wreath bright, prevent a red light” annual holiday fire prevention campaign is underway.

Deputy Director Jeff Bengtson said the wreath is outside the Public Safety Center and, “Is decorated with clear bulbs right now and throughout the season between Thanksgiving and New Years Day any preventable structure fire will be indicated with a red bulb on the wreath and any fire-related injury will be represented with a blue bulb on the wreath.”

Bengtson added that Thanksgiving is the peak day of the year for home cooking fires, and the best way to prevent them is, “Watching and monitoring your cooking, tend your cooking at all times. It’s easy to get distracted now more than ever with devices and guests and other distractions.”
