Utility companies in Minnesota are reminding customers to check their natural gas meter following the recent snowstorm.
Xcel Energy area manager Mark Nisbet said a blocked or snow-covered meter could create issues.
“There is a regulator on it that needs an intake of air to properly maintain the pressure so your furnace will run appropriately,” he explained, “So we would ask people to be aware of that.”
The utility is asking people to remove snow from the meter area with a shovel and by hand when getting close to it to help prevent problems.
Homeowners should also make sure furnace vent pipes are not plugged with snow and ice.
