After continued investigation, a Mankato man is now charged with stalking, two counts of assault, and disorderly conduct after he was accused of beating his girlfriend last month outside of the post office in Mankato at 2:00 a.m. after leaving the bar – and the victim was initially the one arrested.

Mankato Police said a 911 caller told dispatch that the woman was screaming and appeared to be trying to get away from 22-year-old Craig Pavlo and when officers arrived they said he was holding the struggling woman.

Investigators said both had been drinking together at a bar and Pavlo claimed that she wanted to leave and he wanted to stay but the woman was too drunk to go home by herself and he was just trying to stop her.

Pavlo showed officers marks and scratches on his neck and hands and they concluded that the woman was the aggressor and she was arrested.

However, officers later reviewed a city camera and said it showed that Pavlo grabbed the woman by her neck twice during the altercation, blocked her from walking away, pinned her against a wall, and chased her around a courtyard when the victim ran from him.
