As a kid in Minny, you look forward to a few things each year.

  2. Your birthday
  3. State High School Hockey Tournament

Seriously, one of the most wonderful times of the year! The city of Saint Paul will once again be transformed into Tournament City USA as Xcel Energy Center plays host to four championship tournaments from this week (Feb. 20) through March 9. Just let this soak in, the State Hockey Tournament brings in more people than some NHL or NBA teams see in a weekend!

Just being able to sit back and watch the excitement that surrounds this event is insane, people converge on  Xcel to breathe in the 75 years of history of what us Minnesota. Oh! We also get to experience a new one of these each year.

The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), celebrating the 25th anniversary of the first Girls’ State Hockey Tournament and the 75th anniversary of the first Boys’ State Hockey Tournament, kicks off the action with three straight weeks of high school tournaments.

Also, this year is the 30th Annual Let’s Play Hockey Expo, the world’s largest consumer hockey show, returns to Saint Paul RiverCentre March 8-9. Held in conjunction with the Minnesota State High School League’s Boys’ Hockey Tournament, the expo is open to the public and offers a sneak peek at the hottest hockey equipment and merchandise, hockey schools and camps, training devices and much more.

The dates of the tournaments are as follows:

  • Feb. 20-23 MSHSL Girls’ State Hockey Tournament
  • Feb. 28 – March 2 MSHSL State Wrestling Tournament
  • March 6-9 MSHSL Boys’ State Hockey Tournament
