The Mankato City Council is considering Tobacco 21, which would make it illegal to sell tobacco or nicotine products to people under age 21 and is asking the community to weigh in.

Councilman Mike Laven said, “We need folks to weigh in. The more input the better. It makes a better decision for our community than just waiting for a small group of select people making that decision.

Enacting the ordinance would raise the age to legally buy tobacco products from 18 to 21, but would not criminalize the possession or use by people over the age of 18.
