U.S. Senator Tina Smith continues to meet with older Minnesotans and advocates who work with them to discuss how upcoming federal budget decisions will affect the health and well being of the state’s rapidly aging population. One program treasured by many is Meals on Wheels. Smith says it’s more than a nutritional meal – it’s also about social interaction:
“One of the things that happens as you get older is you can become isolated. You just don’t get out as much. You don’t see people as much. So the stories I heard about how important it is to these volunteers to be able to go in and deliver a warm meal and have a conversation.”
Smith says health care costs, prescription drug prices, and social security were also hot topics.
