Senate Republicans are threatening to freeze funding for Minnesota’s child care assistance program (C-CAP) — and eliminate it altogether after one year — unless problems with fraud are promptly resolved.

Senator Michelle Benson from Ham Lake: “We don’t see a high level of seriousness with the governor and the House fundamentally changing.”

Benson’s comments come after a follow-up review by the legislative auditor concludes the state Human Services Department must do more to effectively prevent, detect and investigate fraud in the C-CAP program. State Human Services Department officials have not yet commented.
