Tuition increases at state colleges and universities (Minnesota State) would be capped at three percent each of the next two years, under a higher education funding bill the Minnesota Legislature passed late last night (Mon) before adjourning its regular session. State Higher Education Commissioner Dennis Olson calls it a “good, strong bill”:

“I think this is a bill that the governor will be proud to sign.”

The 3.4-billion-dollar higher education bill is a 150-million more than current funding levels. Some Democrats say that’s inadequate. Republicans respond they resisted large tax increases that Democrats proposed.
