While public health officials in Hennepin County await test results today that may pinpoint what sickened nearly 120 people who visited Lake Minnetonka over the 4th of July, there are steps everyone can take to stay healthy while swimming.

“If people have been sick with diarrhea they absolutely should not be swimming. If people are at the water they should take a shower before. And then also making sure as much as possible not swallowing any water while swimming.”

Trisha Robinson with the State Department of Health says symptoms of the potential waterborne illness include diarrhea, low fever, and stomach cramps.
