As Minnesota lawmakers discuss changes to cannabis laws in the state, an area lawmaker says the state needs to look at the current medical cannabis law as well. State representative Jeff Brand of St. Peter says he would like to see medical cannabis more available and more affordable to Minnesotans who need it.

“A lot of people that have the ability to purchase medical cannabis cannot because of the cost,” said Brand. “And because of that they either under dose themselves or seek the black market.”

He says lone dispensary in District one is in Rochester so people still have to travel potentially a long way to receive medical cannabis. Brand says whether they discuss both bills together or separately remains to be seen with democrats controlling the house and republicans controlling the senate.
