The entire area will be under a Winter Storm Warning beginning at ten a.m. this morning and continuing until six p.m. Saturday night. Jacob Beitlich from the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says the storm will come in two parts.
“The first part will be later this morning into early afternoon, ” said Beitlich. “We will see snowfall rates of an inch to an inch and a half per hour. There will be a little bit of a break tonight but a cold front comes into tomorrow and that will increase the winds to up to 40 miles per hour creating some blizzard conditions out west.”
Beitlich says the latest predictions have the further north the storm goes, the higher the accumulation totals will be.
“I think when it’s all said and done southern Minnesota will receive five to six inches, central Minnesota will receive around ten and up on the north shore folks may see up to a foot of snow,” said Beitlich.
The majority of southwest Minnesota will be under a blizzard warning beginning at six a.m. Saturday morning.
