Should a local option sales tax help fund a potential new fire hall in St. Peter? The St. Peter City Council will discuss the issue this evening. City manager Todd Prafke says the council discussed the matter in a work session last week. Prafke says tonight the council will be asked to approve asking voters for a local option sales tax. If the council gives approval tonight, it’s just the first step in the process. Prafke says the city would then ask the state legislature for approval. He says if the state legislature gives its ok, then the matter will go before voters in November. Prafke says the city is considering a ½ to ¾ cent sales tax. The meeting will begin at seven p.m. in the Governor’s Room of the Community Center.
