A hearing is set at the State Capitol next week as the legislative session begins to address adding sprinkler systems to certain buildings by 2032. The bill is in response to a fatal fire in the Cedar High Apartments last November that left five people dead. Representative Tim Mahoney says it’s not just a metro-focused bill…

“Because we have these buildings not just in Minneapolis and St. Paul, but throughout the state, no one should die unnecessarily in a fire, they are preventable and sprinklers are the best way to prevent them.”

Mahoney says the issue hit particularly close to home for him, because he almost lost a brother to a house fire years ago. The hearing is set for Wednesday.
