New York Jets cornerback Trumaine Johnson is set to be released from the New York Jets. The Jets must make the transaction by March 20 when his $11 million salary becomes guaranteed.
Uncertainty in regards to the proposed bargaining agreement could affect the timetable of this decision. Under these new terms, the New York Jets can designate Johnson a cut by June 1st, and this would allow them to spread his cap over two seasons.
The Jets are thin at a cornerback, but they were never any doubts about their desire to move on from Johnson. They were only able to get 17 games out of him, and they ended up paying $34 million. Johnson had to miss 9 games in the 2019 season due to ankle sprains, and five games in the 2018 season due to a strained quadricep.
