Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka is sounding the alarm over the likely condition of the state budget — almost certainly now in deficit because of the coronavirus pandemic:

“We do need to make sure that we defeat COVID-19 and not destroy the livelihood of many Minnesotans while we’re doing that, but not far behind that is paying attention to how we’re spending money, because next year we still have to balance the budget.”

So far the legislature and governor have approved bills that would likely spend over a billion dollars to address the COVID crisis.
