Minnesota has now reported 57 coronavirus deaths. Kris Ehresman is an infectious disease specialist with the Minnesota Department of Health. She says the state’s congregate care settings have been hit especially hard.
“36 of our deaths have come in congregate care settings,” said Ehresman.
Ehresman says the state has seen high numbers of COVID-19 cases in congregate care settings but there’s some context to that.
“We are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases in congregate care settings,” said Ehresman. “But we need to acknowledge we have prioritized testing that group because it’s a high-risk group for complications from COVID and we want to make sure we’re aggressively intervening when we can.”
The Minnesota Department of Health says there have been 82 congregate-care facilities statewide that have reported at least one case of COVID-19.
