“Stunning.” That’s what the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development Commissioner Steve Grove says regarding the number of Minnesotans who have filed for unemployment in the past month…

“In 2019 we had 219,625 active accounts for unemployment insurance and as of yesterday we’re now up to 451,790 applications in Minnesota.”

Grove says that equals around 14.5-percent of the state’s workforce. And unemployment filings have disproportionately affected people of color.
