St. Peter City Administrator Todd Prafke says it’s possible, but he doubts the Minnesota State Legislature will take up his city’s request to hold a local option sales tax referendum this fall. It was part of the city’s plan to help fund a new fire station. Prafke says the council will hold further discussion on the issue once they know for sure.

“The decision now is do we want to fund the fire station totally from property taxes or do we want other people who shop and stop in St. Peter to help pay for the fire hall,” said Prafke.

The city is looking to replace its current nearly 100-year-old fire hall.
