(Emerson, Manitoba)  —  Canadian officials are identifying the Indian family that froze to death while attempting to illegally cross the U.S. Canadian border east of Minnesota.  The family of four included 39-year-old father Jagdish Patel, 37-year-old mother Vaishaliben Patel, eleven-year-old daughter Vihangi Patel, and three-year-old son Dharmik Patel.  Canadian authorities believe the family was driven from Toronto to the border in Emerson, Manitoba as part of a human smuggling operation.  Prosecutors have filed charges of human smuggling against 47-year-old Florida man Steve Shand in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis.
